STATE THE FACTS

Your task is to take a tour through one of the many states in the USA and bring the rest of the class with you. Even though some of you might have a driver’s license you will not use a car – but instead a super pedagogic PowerPoint presentation (or similar). This virtual vehicle of wonder should contain:

  • Basic facts (population, location etc.)
  • Nature (animals, waterfalls etc.)
  • Urban areas (city life, shopping etc.)
  • Culture (history, music, famous people etc.)
  • Sports and education (universities, teams etc.)
  • Language (local expressions, dialects etc.)
  • Various other things (weird laws, state animals etc.)

Basically, you should show your classmates most of the important things from the state you visit. Focus especially on those ones that are unique and interesting (for example the Cadillac graveyard outside Albuquerque, New Mexico or the statue of Mike the Headless Chicken in Fruita, Colorado). Also, please remember to use somewhat reliable sources.

I encourage you to be creative.

EXAMINATION:
  • PRESENTATION - Use a PowerPoint presentation (or similar) and talk about your state for 10 minutes. No video clips – pictures work better for this assignment. Recommended group size: 3 students.
  • SUMMARY - Hand in a summary of your presentation in somewhat formal English (100 words).
  • TEST - Based on all the presentations your teacher will compile a test. Prepare by taking notes during the presentations and by reading all the summaries.
