TOURING THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING WORLD

Dear students,

Your new task is to take a trip to somewhere in the world where English is spoken (as a first language) and bring the rest of the class with you. Together, with you as a guides, the class will travel through this hopefully interesting place and have lots of fun. Even though some of you might have a driver’s license you will not use a car – but instead a super pedagogic PowerPoint presentation (or similar). This virtual vehicle of wonder should contain:

  • Basic facts
  • History
  • Nature
  • Geography
  • Culture
  • Sports
  • and various other things...

Basically, you should show your classmates most of the important things from the place you visit. Focus especially on those ones that are unique and interesting. For example: Stonehenge in England, The Great Salt Lake Desert in Utah, USA or Uluru (Ayers rock) in Australia. Also, please remember to use somewhat reliable sources.

I encourage you to be creative. For example, I didn't mention when you should give us the tour (thus making it possible to visit let's say South Africa in 1988 or England around 1066. Still, I guess most of you will stick to "right now, sort of", and that is, of course, perfectly fine).

Below zero degrees (both Fahrenheit and Celsius) in Northern Canada.

EXAMINATION:
  • PRESENTATION - Use a PowerPoint presentation (or similar) and talk about your area for 10 minutes. No video clips – pictures work better for this assignment. Recommended group size: 3 students.
  • SUMMARY - Hand in a short summary of your presentation (100-200 words). One per group.
  • TEST - Based on all the presentations and the summaries (I'll make a compilation and send it to everybody) a test will be compiled. Please submit 5 questions along with your summary (further instructions on what a "good" question is will follow).

Good luck!
