Dear students,

 

Your task is to write a 600-word discussion essay – for a daily newspaper (use formal language) – concerning a topic that you find interesting. To prepare, you are encouraged to study – well in advance – articles and non-fiction books that deal with what you have decided to write about. Use quotes and references from what you have read and don't forget to include source criticism (100 words. Obligatory for A-grade).

When writing your essay, follow this structure:

• INTRODUCTION
  First, introduce your topic. Provide a background. Why is this important to discuss? Present your question.

• MAIN PART (BODY)
  1. One aspect/reason/opinion. Present sources (articles, books, etc.) using quotes and references. Summarize the ideas put forth.
  2. Another aspect/reason/opinion. Present sources (articles, books, etc.) using quotes and references. Summarize the ideas put forth.
  3. Analysis. Compare the presented aspects/reasons/opinions and answer your question.

• CONCLUSION
  Summarize and present an answer to your question.
